Frequently Asked Questions

How long until I can get one / shipping?

We normally ship by Royal Mail first class within 24 hours. We’ll let you know if it will take any longer to dispatch. If you need faster delivery there’s an option for Royal Mail 24 hour tracked.

Are these prints?

No – each one is hand painted to order with an original hanko stamp. For that reason the piece you receive will look very similar, but not exactly the same, as the photos you see on the site. Each piece comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Can you do my own custom text?

No, sorry. Here’s why: something that seems relatively simple in English can quickly end up being a lot of characters in Japanese. So, it would take ages and might not look very nice in the end art.

What do they really mean?

Each piece is a close translation to the actual title. Some things don’t translate literally from English to Japanese. Occasionally a completely literal translation is used to double up on the joke.

Wait, you used the wrong Kanji for [blank]??

This is calligraphy style, sometimes Kanji will look different to the ones that you might get out of Google translate with a perfect font.

Do they come with a frame?

No. Each piece is on A3 sized paper to make framing simple. Amazon is a great place to start for frames but make sure you check dimensions – some of the A3 listings will only hold A4 artwork because of the matt used.

QUICK TIP!! If you have an IKEA near you – the EDSBRUK 40x50cm with 30x40cm Matt looks GREAT and fits perfectly.

How are they packaged?

Each piece is painted, then allowed to dry before being wrapped in tissue and shipped in a card backed A3 envelope via Royal Mail first class in the UK (other carriers overseas).

Where are they made?

Each piece is hand painted by Miwa in the UK.

What's the returns policy?

We hope you love your piece, nobody has asked to send one back yet. But – if you dig through all those terms and conditions you will find that returns are acceptable as long as the piece comes back to us unblemished. (Of course if the postal service messes it up then get ahold of us right away, we’ll send a new one!)
